As more states move towards electronic toll booths, rental car companies are starting to charge for their transponders.
Some transponders may work across states, though, so you might bring your own with you on vacation.

Check with your electronic toll provider to see in what other states your transponder may work in.
If your transponder isn’t compatible at your destination, check with that state’s toll authority.
Some systems such as Florida’sSun-Passallow you to buy a transponder in advance.
