If you’re on the fence about donating some of your clutter, put them in a unlabeled box.

Write down an “expiration date” for the box.

If the box remains unopened by that date, donate it or throw it away.

Double exposure photo of a man in jeans and a red long-sleeved shirt decluttering a garage. In one exposure he’s standing with his back to the camera and his hands on his head; in the other, he’s in motion moving a long gray cylinder.

Store the box in the attic or the basement, or wherever is convenient.

Once a year, examine the labels.

When you come across a box whose date has passed, throw it out without opening it.

Since you don’t know what’s inside, you’ll never miss it.

You should mark it accordingly so you don’t accidentally throw it out with other boxes.
