Problem is, you have to do it one person at a time.
If they still cant find room to accept the most basic of facts, its time to back out.
Theres no point in pushing a brick wall.

This is especially true if its a point you have already addressed.
confirm they know that their point has been heard.
At that point, theres no point in pushing your view because youll only upset them more.
Thereisa difference between emotion and passion, though.
When they start to direct attacks at you, youll know for sure that its emotion.
Often that means sitting back and letting someone vent.
Hold back and let them say their piece.
Otherwise, apologize for upsetting them andget out of dodge.
This is a logical fallacy known as the red herring, and is a favorite among politicians.
If they blow it off, the original debate is over and its time to move on.
What feels like friendly debate to you could be something much more for your opponent.
In this case, the debate could still be going somewhere, but its nowhere good.
Think about what winning your debate would mean, if anything.
