Here are a few tricks for improving it.

Itll take up more space, but the picture will look better.

Look around and youd be surprised at what you’re able to find.

Uncheck as much as it’s possible for you to.

This can produce a phenomenon called judder.

You canread more about 3:2 pulldown and judder here, and watch the video above to see a demonstration.

But it can be more noticeable in certain types of shots, and on bigger TV screens.

(Note: this feature wont work on Android versions of Kodi.)

Itll usually tell you whether the video is playing back at 60Hz, 24p, or something else.

Heres some info about how it works and how to set it optimally for your home theater PC.

TVs and PCs denote color using a range of numbers.

You could write a book on how all this works, butthis articleis a pretty good primer.

What you gotta know is: you want your home theater PC to output limited RGB.

To get the right output, you need the right combination of prefs in each of these places.

Ideally, your parameters should look like this:

Video Player: RGB Limited (16-235).

you’re able to do this in Kodi by going to configs > System > Video Output.

Video Card Drivers: RGB Full (0-255).

AMD users can find this setting in Catalyst Control Center under My Digital Flat Panels > Pixel Format.

But there ismuch debateas to whether these configs work properly on NVIDIA and Intel machines.

TV parameters: RGB Limited (16-235).

All threesettings must be set exactly as described above.

Youll find it under Misc Patterns > A-Additional.

Once you set these options properly, any banding you once saw on that pattern should disappear.

This will create the best picture quality for your videos.

However, your desktop and any other applications will not look quite right.

If that is unacceptable to you, your best bet is to set all three prefs to Full RGB.

If it doesnt use a very good upscaling method, this can make the picture look blurry or pixelated.

In Plex, youll find this setting under Preferences > Playback > Advanced Video.

(More on this in a bit.)

Next, play a video from your library.

Under Video Scaling Method, choose something like Lanczos3 Optimized or Spline36 Optimizedthese are the highest quality options.

Pick the one that looks best to you.

Scroll down and choose Set default for all videos to apply this scaling method to all your videos.

Again, this will produce a stronger effect on lower resolution videos.

It depends on your TV and your vision.

Kodi users on Windows can get around this by enabling an experimental feature in the advancedsettings.xml file.

Add the following below

:

If you already have a

line, just add the

line under it.

This feature, however, is experimental and unsupported.

But if youre truly dedicated, its the ultimate in home theater PC quality.
