Flights are more affordable these days, butpretty much everything costs extra.

Heres how to get around those fees, especially the hidden ones.

Discount airlines like Spirit typically charge more.

Their checked baggage fee starts at $30 and increases depending on the weight.

Some airlines will waive this if you have a co-branded credit card.

If you have an airline-branded credit card, check your terms to see if they include this perk.

If you dont have a card and you travel with an airline frequently, it might be worth applying.

There are plenty oftips and tricks for squeezing everything into one bag.

However, there are a couple of downside to this.

For one, theres only so much overhead bin space.

So the situation can be a pain for a lot of travelers.

If you pay at booking, youll pay $65 less than you would last minute.

If youre an extremely light packer, you could venture to fit everything into your personal item.

I fly with Spirit when I visit my parents in Texas.

Obviously, this isnt possible for everyone, but its a simple way to get around the fee.

It doesnt even have to be a fancy First Class seat.

Spirit charges between $1-$50, depending on the route.

Allegiantcharges up to $80for some flights.

Airfarewatchdog has a long list ofseat booking fees here.

Its hit or miss, but to get the best seats, you might skip the preselection altogether.

They cant charge you for something you didnt want.

With luck, the gate agent will run out of normal seats and push you up front.

Itnever hurts to ask.

Similarly, Ryanairrequires passengers to check-in online.

Heres alist of Wi-Fi costs by carrier.

Change your user agent, get the lower mobile price, then switch back after you pay.

If thats too clandestine for you, you might still save some cashif you pay in advance.

Gogo offers a few passes that are cheaper if you buy them before your flight.

Whats more, you might be able to find coupon codes.

Sites likeRetailMeNotwill list promos and vouchers for Gogo, for example.

If youre a T-Mobile customer, it’s possible for you to getan hours worth of Wi-Fi for free.

In fact,some apps may work for freeeven if you dont pay for Wi-Fi.

Its hit or miss, but worth a shot before you fork over the cash.

And with a little preparation, you could skip many of the additional fees.
