But it’s for “in-store pickup only,” making you immediately dread having to leave the house.

But this is more than a slight inconvenienceit’s a retail ploy.

The idea is simple.

You go to the store to pick up your item, you see something else, you buy.

Consumerist points out that Macy’s chief omnichannel officer R.B.

Harrison recently explained it to theWashington Post:

It gets footsteps into our stores.

We experience, on average, increased sales.

Also, some retailers will only let you return items in-store after buying them online.

Again, footsteps in their stores means more consumer spending.

It’s just another marketing trick to be aware of, if you weren’t already aware of it.
