Dear Lifehacker,I have a coworker whoswearsby Shakeologys meal replacement shakes.

I was shocked to see that a thirty-serving container was $130!

Is there any reason to believe these shakes are actually helping her?

Better yet, are there other options I could convince her to use instead?

Im worried shes drinking the Kool-Aid of a very expensive fad.

I agree with you that the Kool-Aid hype is strong in this one.

Sounds great, but now lets put on our skeptics hats.

In general, added vitamins tend to have a big, fathealth halo.

More importantly, shakes (whether theyre protein or meal replacement ones) arent regulated very closely by theU.S.

These apply to any plastic bottle full of hopes and dreams.

One things for sure, Shakeology has convenience going for it, but its expensive.

It doesnt seem so absurd now.

That way, you’ve got the option to customize everything to your liking.

When Meal Replacement Shakes Can Help You

If youre always on-the-go, meal replacement shakes are practical.

They get extra brownie points for being portable and convenient.

Simply add water (or milk) and itll shush any loud, growling stomach.

Overall, its still all a matter ofcontrolling how many calories you eatthough.

However, that does mean these are perfect for people with the opposite problem whohave trouble gaining weight.

Sincerely,Lifehacker
