Scientifically speaking, simmering is when your water is somewhere around 180 to 200F.

Water starts to full-on boil at around 212 F, depending on your elevation.

If you dont have a thermometer, however, it can be a little tricky to determine.

But a rolling boil was like a full blown belly laugh.

Students never forgot that analogy.
